The Spiritual Artist | 3-Day Workshop | Thursday March 14th, Friday 15th, Saturday 16th, 2024 | 9:15am-12:15pm each day | for $315.00 + tax |

Join me as I return to Artisan Santa Fe for a life-changing Spiritual Artist Workshop based on principles from my book, “The Spiritual Artist.”

This exclusive 3-day workshop is for artists of all disciplines who crave a deeper understanding of their Creative DNA. We will focus on your patterns of thinking and the spiritual process within you that occurs before and when you create.

Through a transformative blend of artmaking and mindfulness exercises, you will discover a new level of inspiration and purpose in your work. Guided by artist and author Christopher Miller, you’ll delve into mindfulness training, journaling, collage, and abstract painting to unlock your creative potential and free you from limiting beliefs.

  • Day One will include a guided meditation followed by journaling to help unleash anything holding you back from your true creative expression. After explaining the term Creative DNA, abstract design principles, and the importance of “space,” students will create a vision board collage.
  • Day Two will include a brief grounding invocation followed by an introduction to asemic drawing or writing. (See video here). CJ will lead the students through asemic repetitions. Similar to gestural drawing, asemic repetitions focus on emotion and expression. After completing several repetitions, students will have time to edit their work by widening lines, filling spaces, and learning the importance of subtraction in abstract work.
  • Day Three will start with a warm-up exercise that involves movement and a group asemic practice. Then, students will explore mark-making using squeegees and brayers. Attendees should bring acrylics, brushes, drawings, and multimedia supplies.

Level: All Levels – No Painting experience is required for this workshop.

Artist Statement:

So, you want to know more about me?  What makes me tick and all that?

It’s been a journey, let me tell you. Almost fifty years ago, just before I entered my teens, I had a very traumatizing experience with a Carnegie Mellon art teacher and was shamed in front of a thousand peers. (And when I say, 1,000, I am not exaggerating.) The result? I walked away from my artistic gifts. In my late teens, when I realized that I was gay, I walked away from the Catholic Church and my faith in God. Always a loving person, I found their rejection unacceptable.

It wasn’t until many, many years later that I healed from those two experiences and returned to making art and believing in a Greater Power. It was through the creative act that I rediscovered myself and my meaning. I published a book called, “The Spiritual Artist” to remind myself how to reconnect to Spirit through practice. My journey reaffirmed my connection to others and my desire to help them find their inner calling. I would call it my Greater Purpose.

I love to make art and I continue to discover new aspects of my unique Creative DNA. When I create, I most fully align with Spirit. I invite you to read the book, listen to my podcast, and remember your inner Spiritual Artist. While we celebrate our differences of heritage, ethnicity, sexual orientation, family, and culture in our physical manifestation we also can recognize that we are one in Spirit. Honor your individuality but celebrate your spiritual connection. And remember, you are a Spiritual Artist.
