Bold Strokes: Take the Plunge Into Watercolor

2 1/2 Day Workshop on September 15, 16, & 17, 2022 | Thursday, 1:00pm-4:00pm | Friday & Saturday 10:00AM-3:30PM | for $275.00 + Tax

An individual freestyle approach to contemporary watercolor techniques in an emotionally bold and dramatic light. Experiment with scrubbing, dripping, splashing, and glazing in a loose textural manner. Learn non-traditional tools, brushes and painting vertically on an easel.

Artist Statement: 

Art has always been a part of my life. I paint the dark to capture the value of the light. My watercolors are improvised on the urban landscape – gritty, stark, rough – engaging a deeper emotion – using shadow, texture, color, and glazes; moving art to a more complex tonality. My art evokes an emotion that helps you take the journey with me into that world.

I am an avid bicyclist, and walker. My studio is the ever-changing world around me. I do long distance bike trips and paint and photograph as I go. I love visiting noisy cities and bustling streets. Every day is a different wonder, a new world to live in the moment. My work is created from the occasion that makes it unique and with its own particular style. The style is a product of the time and place, leaving room for the viewer’s imagination.  Versatility is my signature.

My motivation for continuing to paint is for both you and I to escape for a moment to another place and find joy in imagining an experience together. The story each of us views in the painting creates an art all its own. I cherish my continuing fascination with the world and treasure my history.

Artist Bio:

Nadine Charleson, instructor, is an award winning professional watercolor artist. Here watercolors have been featured in Splash 16 and 17, American Art Collector, Laurel of Asheville and Asheville Made. Her non-traditional style was featured in Watercolor Artist Magazine, “Making A Scene”-2017. Charleson is a signature member of the American Watercolor Society, life member of Art Students League of New York, a member of the Salmagundi Club and National Association of Women Artists.
